Words and Music by: Lisa A. Weidley
In humble hands, filthy rags I bring
As I walk into the presence of my King.
I stand in awe of His majesty.
He died for me. How can it be?
The King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the great I Am.
A glorious robe, now I start to see –
Christ’s righteousness, by grace it covers me.
He calls my name while choirs of angels sing,
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
A wave of love washes over me,
It fills my soul, and now from pain I’m free.
Christ lifts me up, His radiant face to see.
Beams of light shine through eternity.
“From everlasting to everlasting You are God.”

Transcript for voice note: Okay, so earlier today I posted a recording of a new hymn that I wrote called “Come to Me” and I wanted to post another one of my hymns on here that I’m still working on. It doesn’t have a title yet. I have the first three verses that I can show you, and I’m still working on the last two verses But it talks about some of the things that we have been talking about on here And I’ve got the words posted that you can read through and the piano melody and then on this recording I’ll whisper the words with the piano recording so that you can get an idea of how it sounds. So this song is about let me try and get my thoughts together here. we’ve been talking about that this life is a preparation for the next, and we’re waiting to meet God. So this song is talking about what happens when a Christian meets God. They’re walking into the presence of their King. They’re meeting the great I Am. They’re seeing him face to face and also it talks about what we’ve started talking about of the difference between our righteousness and Christ’s righteousness. Remembering that we don’t have any righteousness of our own that can save us, we’re relying on the righteousness of Christ. So the first verse says in humble hands filthy rags I bring as I walk into the presence of my King. I stand in awe of his majesty. He died for me. How can it be? The King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the great I Am. That’s referencing a Bible verse there. There’s a in the Bible it talks about that our righteousness compared to Christ’s righteousness is but filthy rags. So uh it’s saying that and then the righteousness of Christ is this glorious robe of righteousness so it’s like comparing rags to a robe. Rags would not be enough to cover you. and if they’re filthy rags then they would actually be defiled. So it would defile you not cleanse you of your sins. So well but that’s I might have said that wrong but it’s not that remember it’s Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, his death and resurrection was the atoning sacrifice for us that takes away our sins and then the righteousness he worked out for us by obeying the law perfectly is that glorious robe. So he takes away our unclean garment and then As you may have heard, there’s a lot of hymns about that. Like, are you washed in the blood? Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? And then there’s this robe of righteousness that we wear. It’s Christ’s righteousness.
So, I had read the words of the first verse, so this person…has passed away they’re getting ready to see God face to face and so now they’re able to see this um spirit world and They’re looking down in their own hands and they’re starting to feel the weight of what’s about to happen. They’re getting ready to see God. They’re looking down in their hands and seeing that all they have is filthy rags. Their own righteousness is not enough.
Then in the second verse, they look down and they see that they’re wearing that glorious robe of Christ’s righteousness.
And then The next verse talks about how all their pain is taken away. And Christ lifts the person up to see his face. And beams of light shine through eternity. And then I was going to explain that this, “From everlasting to everlasting You are God.” That’s from a Bible verse. It’s Psalm 90:2 That says, “Before the mountains were born, or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”
So that’s talking about God’s attributes of being infinite and eternal. He has no beginning and no end. So everlasting to everlasting is saying There was no beginning to him, so he’s from everlasting to everlasting there’s no end. So he existed always. He’s called the Uncreated One. The not created One. He always existed so he existed before the world was created That’s what that verse is talking about, Psalm 90:2, saying, “Before the mountains were born, or you brought forth the whole world. From everlasting to everlasting You are God.” And when we get to heaven we’re going from being in time to eternity.
There’s a lot of hymns that talk about that imagery right now we’re on the river of time. And it’s hours, days, months, years, and then eternity is different. The river of time opens up into the sea of eternity. so when we get there to eternity we’re going to be able to see and understand really what that means and so this person is seeing Jesus face to face and he’s exclaiming, “From everlasting to everlasting You are God.”
So those are the first three verses. I can show you those now. And then the fourth verse is going to be about being reunited with loved ones. And then this person would take their place with all the saints in heaven. And they kind of So they have this joyous reunion and then that person sits down and turns kind of and sits down and looks and now is looking down at the events of earth and it’s talking about how in heaven All of the saints in heaven, all of the people that are in heaven, and all of the angels are there waiting and they’re watching because they don’t know the moment when Jesus is going to return. So they’re all watching and waiting for that. That’s something we can feel connected to everybody in heaven about is that we’re all waiting for the same moment. So that’s what the last verse will be about is that we’re all…watching and waiting, waiting for that moment when Jesus returns. So now I will try and whisper the words over the piano arrangement so that you can get an idea of how the song sounds. And I realized I only recorded on the piano part I only recorded two verses so I’ll have to stop after the second verse and start the recording again.

Okay so thank you for listening. I hope that gives you an idea of the song. And on this piano recording some of the melody notes are not there for the like at the end of the verses. It didn’t match exactly with the words of the verses. But I think that was still it can give you an idea of the song. And I’m still working on the 4th and 5th verses. I thought it would be helpful to hear it because it has things we were talking about. So thank you for listening.
